Turin, September 7, 2026<\/strong> \u2013 Intesa, a Havant Group company with over 35 years of experience in digital transformation and one of the leading qualified trust service providers in Italy and Europe, announces its participation in the pilot program of the IT-Wallet System as an Electronic Attestation Verifier<\/strong>, admitted on July 9, 2026, with registration in the special section of the registry reserved for entities joining the pilot program. To date, Intesa is the only private entity present in that section in this role: the other entities holding this role are IPZS and some public administrations.<\/p>\n The architecture of Italy’s digital identity took shape between July 23 and August 3, 2026, with the publication in the Official Gazette of two key measures: the decree of June 17, 2026, which approves the IT-Wallet System Guidelines and governs the rules for the pilot program, and the decree of March 19, 2026, aimed at dividing operational responsibilities between PagoPA and the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS). These decrees define the scope of system roles; the registry’s technological infrastructure is guaranteed by IPZS, while registration to the System is ordered by AgID through its own measure, according to the administrative procedures that will be defined by the IT-Wallet regulation pursuant to Article 6, paragraph 3, of the decree.<\/p>\n Pending that regulation, participation takes place within the pilot program governed by Article 8 of the decree, open to voluntary participation by public and private entities meeting the requirements for delivering technical solutions. Participating in the pilot program requires managing, to all intents and purposes, a trust infrastructure: cryptographic keys, certificates with limited validity, and continuous compliance with the technical profiles of the Trust Anchor. It is a commitment closer to running a Certification Authority than to an application integration, and for Intesa it builds on established experience as a Qualified Trust Service Provider and on participation in European projects on the European Digital Identity Wallet, from the Potential Consortium to the current WE BUILD Consortium.<\/p>\n “On December 24, 2027, the obligation set out in Article 5f of the eIDAS2 Regulation kicks in, requiring the Wallet to be accepted as a strong identification and authentication tool. It applies to private entities legally required to perform strong customer authentication and to operators in regulated sectors: banking, payment institutions, insurance, telecom, energy, transport, healthcare, and education. From now until that date, less than 16 months remain \u2014 very little time to understand which attributes are actually available and at what level of assurance, how the user flow will change, which steps in internal verification processes will become unnecessary, and which will need to be rewritten,” says Simone Baldini, Head of Business Compliance at Intesa<\/strong>. “The real question today isn’t whether to join, but when to start testing.”<\/p>\n For organizations operating in these sectors, Intesa is making available the verification infrastructure already active in the pilot program<\/strong>, enabling them to immediately launch proof-of-concept projects on real use cases: age verification within an onboarding flow, residency checks, and validation of a qualification or degree. This is a path that involves no regulatory commitments but allows organizations to understand, within a few weeks, how to position themselves within a complex ecosystem involving multiple actors, roles, and responsibilities.<\/p>\n Marco Broggio, Chief Solution Officer at Intesa<\/strong>, adds: “The Verifier role represents just a starting point for us.
