Intesa, a Kyndryl Company, joins the WE BUILD Consortium for the international pilot of e-invoicing through Peppol and Digital Wallet
Turin, February 17, 2026 – Intesa, a Kyndryl Company, announces its participation in the WE BUILD Consortium, a major European initiative bringing together over 180 public bodies, private companies, and academic institutions to strengthen Europe’s digital identity ecosystem. Selected by the European Commission for the Large Scale Pilots dedicated to the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW), the consortium will develop 13 innovative use cases, including international e-invoicing integrated with corporate digital wallets via the Peppol network (Work Package 2, Use Case 5) and, more broadly, other use cases related to the emerging Business Wallet ecosystem.
Intesa’s involvement in this specific use case addresses the growing need for interoperability, efficiency, and security in invoicing processes between European businesses and between businesses and public administrations. The goal is to test, within a collaborative and pan-European framework, the feasibility of issuing and receiving standardized electronic invoices through interoperable channels such as Peppol, directly connecting corporate information systems with the EUDIW digital wallet. This integration between the wallet and Peppol aims to ensure transaction traceability, verified identity and signing authority of involved parties, and full compliance with EU anti-money laundering and tax regulations.
The pilot, involving companies and public bodies from various Member States, is designed to simplify both accounts receivable and payable processes, reduce time and costs, promote transparency, and facilitate automated data verification. In this perspective, the solution represents a significant step toward the internationalization of digital processes and the wider adoption of European e-invoicing, supported by Peppol BIS Billing standards for global interoperability and aligned with the principles of the updated VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) Directive — namely, digital reporting, e-invoicing, and the e-commerce platform economy.
The added value lies not only in the ability to reliably identify counterparties through Business Wallet credentials and attestations (such as signing authority or corporate role), but also in adopting the consortium’s best practices for a truly integrated and scalable implementation.
“Intesa’s participation in this ground-breaking European project allows us to contribute to the development of a secure, transparent, and internationally compliant e-invoicing platform. We believe that the integration of digital identity, the Peppol network, and digital wallets will increasingly enhance both compliance and the efficiency of domestic and cross-border operations,” said Francesco De Cesare, Business Compliance Consultant at Intesa.
Through this initiative, Intesa reaffirms its commitment to driving digital innovation for businesses and public administrations, providing expertise and solutions that support the evolution toward a simpler, safer, and more competitive European landscape for digital document management and payment processes.
