CA Auto Bank, financing goes digital

Launching a digital transformation doesn’t just mean integrating new solutions or digitising documents: digital transformation is a journey, made up of analysis, design and investment (not only financial). The final benefits will indeed meet the initial need, but they will also have a knock-on effect on several other aspects of company procedures and, therefore, on the evolution of the business. The collaboration between CA Auto Bank and Intesa is a case in point.

Customer experience is more than what you see

CA Auto Bank is a banking institution that mainly provides financial solutions for purchasing or long-term leasing vehicles.
Founded in 2006 as a joint venture between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Crédit Agricole Consumer Finance, it is one of the most innovative companies in the sector.

CA Auto Bank began this journey in 2018. “The right solution at the right time,” one might say, because starting in April 2020 CA Auto Bank began offering customers a fully digital way to apply for financing, one that can be started and completed remotely and in self mode (without the need for operator assistance). During the process, customer identification is a key step: the customer is asked to carry out some very simple actions, from framing their ID document with their device’s camera to small head movements designed to identify facial features. Behind the simplicity of these actions and the smooth customer experience, however, lies a technological infrastructure that leverages artificial intelligence for reliable recognition, which is able to:

  • check in real time whether the documents framed by the user are valid and not expired
  • compare the face of the person carrying out the process with the photo on the document through biometric face matching
  • perform a liveness check to verify that the person carrying out the process is a real person and not a bot

But the benefits of the solution don’t stop here. Luca Pollano, Digital and ICT Manager at CA Auto Bank, stated that «The entire process is automated and completed remotely, in just a few minutes and without interruption, with the dual benefit of improving the customer experience and optimising back-office procedures both at dealerships and on the bank’s side, while ensuring the security and traceability of the process, as well as compliance with national and European banking laws and regulations»

The microservices architecture

The platform is presented to the customer as a single, stand-alone solution, but at the back-office level it is made up of multiple microservices that can be used individually by the bank’s various departments. This ensures scalability and integration with other systems, services offered and markets. In this way CA Auto Bank will be able to extend the platform to financing requests for used cars as well, as well as to the French, Spanish, English and German markets.

Benefits at multiple levels

Microservices-based structuring allows for the streamlining of back-office procedures for both dealerships and the bank itself, which can rely on digital documents that are easier to consult and archive. Another hugely important aspect that FCA Bank’s digital transformation has positively affected is regulatory compliance: the self-onboarding platform, in fact, meets the specific requirements of adequate verification of banking customers. From customer experience to the back office and on to regulatory compliance, the start of this digital transformation journey is, for CA Auto Bank, only the beginning of a broader full e-commerce goal for car sales, which is still heavily tied to dealer intermediation.
